Happy Fathers Day

I haven’t written in a while because I have had a little more work to do. The senior enlisted Marine in my section went back to the States so I have been filling in for him. No training, no experience, NO problem!! The Marines that I work with are awesome so I just have to stay out of their way and answer the occasional question, and make sure that people are where they are suppose to be, when they are suppose to be there. It has been a cakewalk. I also quit writing because I didn’t think that anyone was reading it anymore. Stephanie has told me otherwise.

It was an uneventful Father’s Day out here. I spent most of the day putting out fires. Not real fires, just fixing problems. That is pretty much what I do out here. Marines have problems like: they need to get back to the states, they don’t get along with another Marine, they want advice on how to get something they want / need, they want to vent that their subordinate / supervisor is a moron. I am kind of like a guidance counselor….with a pistol….and a lot of bullets.

I was looking through my pictures and found some good. I am here to tell you that I never would have guessed that I would love being a Dad as much as I do. I threw one in there of Shawn for you Auntie Eileen. That is when he came out and visited us in Okinawa. I am sure that y’all would rather see the kids then pictures of sand. There is not a lot of interesting stuff out here to take pictures of. I have been in the same three square miles for the last five months so I never think to take pictures.

I have a date when I am suppose to be home. I won’t say when though. I haven’t even told Stephanie. There is still a great deal of uncertainty when it comes to people leaving. I heard three completely different things from people in positions of authority last week. It is emotionally draining. The Corps often makes knee jerk over reactions to events and circumstances. It is magnified out here to the tenth degree. It is all part of the job….but that doesn’t make it easier. Regardless, I am cautiously optimistic.

Stephanie and the kids are in Indiana. I call Stephanie about twice a week. They sound like they are having a great time. Ava is really whiney, but that is par for the course. They are going to the Children’s Museum tomorrow. Hopefully, her Highness will allow her subjects to enjoy themselves.

I think that I am going to bring Guy with me when I go to Minnesota to pick up my truck. I REALLY miss him and I think it would be cool to have all that time with him. It would be awesome if we could make it up there while the Fair is going on. Pronto Pups, cheese curds, and French fries….Yum! Hopefully we can find some where to stay…..somewhere with a six and a half foot television….and a pool table…..and Mountain Dew.

I look forward to reading your comments about what y’all did for Father’s day.

I also can’t wait to hear how Katie’s softball team does this week!!

  1. Glad to hear you're getting closer to coming home. My father's day started yesterday. I got to play 18 holes of golf at the U of M golf course. Not something I normally do, but pretty fun just the same. I don't care what I score, but I give myself an A+ for only losing 1 golf ball. Today (father's day), I took the kids to the Children's Museum here in St. Paul. Then after coming home for a bit, me and Millie went to the track. We have a relatively new harness racing track here. We had a blast. Millie picked a horse named Ting-a-ling to win. He took the lead in the stretch, and held on to win by a nose. Millie was hootin and hollerin. We got $3.20 back on our $2.00 bet. Maybe we'll get rich $1.20 at a time.
    Happy Father's Day.

  3. Hey Pooch! As you know, I am not a father. But today was pretty special. I took Andrea to my sister Shelley's house for a visit. It was Shelley's youngest son Owen's 2nd birthday on the 20th. With my parents split up, that tends to lean toward two events for everything. My Dad came out today. So I figured I'd kill to birds with one stone, Fathers Day and Owens birthday. It was a good time. My sis made tacos! I got Owen a couple Elmo toys...the kid is nuts for Elmo. I am going to be both her boys Godfather. The Baptism is on 7/12. I cant wait. I am very honored to not only be the GF for one, but both of my lovely nephews. All in all a pretty good day.

Happy Father's Day...hope you get home sooner than later to see them! I look forward to seeing you too!
