Missing Everyone

I was going through my pictures and found a couple of my favorites. The waterfall was in South Dakota when we were on our way to Okinawa in 2006. Guy looks so much younger. I don’t know when the picture of Ava was taken but I always get a kick out of it. I can’t wait to get back and give everyone hugs and kisses!!!

I see that the Vikings took my guy! I am hoping that will get us one playoff win this year. I am not so sure that we have the right quarterback….

The weather is turning hot here. It stays in the 80’s even at night. The dust is constantly blowing. It makes you wonder why people don’t leave. It is really a nasty climate. There really is not a lot new out here. It is pretty much the daily grind. Nothing exciting.

Marines are starting to get antsy. We have had some people getting on each others nerves but that tends to happen when your world consists of about two square miles. We still haven’t had anybody get into trouble. That has been a pleasant surprise. I would have figured someone would have been caught with alcohol or cohabitating with a female by now. Either they are slick or doing the right thing. I am guessing they are slick. Or no one is looking for shenanigans.

I have been thinking about what I want to do when I get back. I know for sure that I will have to come up and get my truck. I don’t think I want to drag Ava on another Midwest tour. I am guessing that I am going to fly up spend a couple of days visiting and drive back. The thing about it is I cannot give out any dates. The Corps gets pretty grumpy when you disclose redeployment dates. I will be able to give some notice though because I will be in North Carolina first. I know it is still really early but I have been missing everyone so much lately I figured I would mention my initial plan. I particularly want to see how Jeff’s beards of the civil war project is coming along…..and maybe get some key lime pie! Hopefully I will have time to thrash the Phoenix with some conditioning drills. I really miss Mom and Grandma….and brownies……and potato salad.

I hope everyone is doing well. Leave a comment. I love y'all!!

Is it hot out here......or is it just me?

The picture is from CrossFit. It has been really tough, as you can see!! There is a web site where you track your progress and see what the work out is going to be. They took that picture of me seconds after I finished. I am still trying to get down to my fighting weight…so wish me luck!! The other picture is from Easter. I never would have picked that sweater for Guy but I like it.
I have been sick the last couple of days. That is why I have had such a long lapse. I have a sinus infection or something. Who knows, the air is NASTY here. A lot of coughing and stuffy nose…nothing life threatening.
The heat is starting to kick in with a vengeance. Today it was 90 with blowing sand. It is like living inside of a vacuum cleaner bag. One of the Marines got heat cramps and got to ride on a helicopter….to the hospital. He also got the thrill of having his core temperature taken….they don’t stick the thermometer in your mouth. I hear it wasn’t a pretty picture.
I am really excited for the draft. I am still hoping for Percy Harvin but I see some mock drafts have the Vikings drafting William Beatty….I wonder if they know about his hernias? When you get deployed you tend to look forward to events because they are milestones. Two years ago when I was in Africa I remember getting really excited about the draft because the deployment was halfway over. This deployment is definitely dragging on longer than Djibouti. I was busier in Djibouti plus I got to go on a couple of trips. I seriously doubt I will leave the base this time until I come home. That is all part of winning the war. Boredom is preferred over incoming fire any day!!
Just in case anyone cares/forgot…Guy’s birthday is May 4th and Ava’s is May 16th….what can I say…..I love August!!

PS The moustache is gone and not coming back until February 3rd 2014. That is when I get out of this gun club!!

Fancy

I have tried to put a video on here. Hopefully you can see it. It takes a really long time to upload because of the slow internet connection......war is hell!

I was really surprised by the outcry for and against my moustache. Very entertaining. I wish that Jackson would've weighed in a little earlier...I might have kept it. If Jackson says it's cool it's gotta be cool. The final straw was the Wing Sergeant Major talking to all of us senior enlisted about moustaches and thier upkeep. Mine was pretty cheesy looking and it was not really in regulations. It is not suppose to touch your upper lip and mine was. So it had to go!!!

Stephanie sent me a box of chocolate and stuff and I attacked it like a polar bear attacks a wounded seal. It was a sensless slaughter. I haven't ate that much candy at once since I made my first money from a paper route and got sick on Butterfingers.

The next big event I am looking forward to is Charlie Daniels. He is coming out here for a concert. I am looking forward to it. That guy has a strong moustache!!

The Moustache

I can't take it anymore. I am shaving tomorrow. Nobody ever tells you how itchy a moustache is or that food get in it. I don't have the patience or desire to let the thing grow in any thicker. You would think with my eyebrows I would have a thick moustache but that is not the case. 15 year old Iraqi kids have more adult looking moustaches than I do.

I was horrified to see that Jay Cutler is coming to the Bears. Favre leaves, we win the North and now another great quarterback moves in. The Vikings are going to be the Cubs of the NFL.
